Eucalyptus is one of the best essential oils for chest congestion relief. The active chemical compounds in eucalyptus have always been used in chest rubs and are often used in steam inhalation to help clear nasal and sinus congestion. It is excellent for excess bronchial and nasal mucous. It has a function similar to that of menthol by acting on receptors in the nasal mucosa, leading to a reduction in the symptoms of nasal congestion. The tannins found in eucalyptus have astringent properties that reduce mucous membrane inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. Eucalyptol, the chemical component of the oil, works to loosen phlegm. Eucalyptus is a powerful antiseptic agent. It’s powerful germicidal properties effectively kill staphylococcus bacteria and have been used to treat tuberculosis. Studies have proven that a two-percent dilution of eucalyptus oil kills 70 percent of airborne staphylococcus bacteria.
Geranium Essential Oil is soothing, antiseptic, antidepressant. It is a cooling oil and calms the mind, relax the body and ease frustration and irritability when unwell.
Other essential oils in the Chest Congestion Relief are Lavender and Peppermint. Lavender essential oils also have amazing properties which include fighting infection, reducing inflammation, and easing congestion and are relaxing. Peppermint reduces inflammation, fights infection, and clears congestion.
Ravensara essential oil has strong anti-viral properties. It is prescribed in France and other countries by medical professionals for use in fighting viral hepatitis and viral enteritis. Ravensara is highly beneficial for respiratory infections, especially viral infections than bacterial infections. Whooping cough, sinusitis (sinus infections) and other bronchitis types of illnesses can be supported by using Ravensara in a room diffuser or steam inhalation.
Fir needle oil is essential oil extracted from the young branches and needles of the silver fir. It has excellent antiseptic properties; it is a tonic and a good cough suppressant. People often use it in the treatment of bronchitis, influenza, asthma, pneumonia.
Camphor oil has a strong penetrating aroma. It immediately opens up congestions of the bronchial, larynx, pharynx, nasal tracts and lungs. It is therefore used in many decongestant balms and cold rubs.
Studies have shown that tea tree oil also treats respiratory problems ranging from common sore throats, coughs and runny nose to severe conditions such as asthma, tuberculosis, and bronchitis. The anti-viral properties of the oil fight many common infectious diseases such as chicken pox, shingles, measles, flu, cold sores and verrucae. It also strengthens the body’s immune system, which is often weakened by stress or illness.
