Regardless of age, most of us over the years have a good collection of scars, they can be from acne,  burns, scrapes, also from surgery incisions or just ageing. Once the skin is seriously damaged, there is unfortunately no magic wand that can make the scars disappear completely.   There are many alternative to rejuvenate the skin, and it can be very expensive.

But there is an alternative, why not try natural essential oils. Essential oils can help you to reduce and lighten scars naturally.  They are derived from plants, and each oil has different healing properties. Most essential oils are beneficial for our health, and have been used in beauty treatments for thousands of years.

Frankincense Essential Oil – Promotes cell regeneration, and reduces the appearance of stretch marks and scars, and can help wounds heal properly so that scarring is less likely.

Lavender Essential Oil – Lavender oil, that all-around remedy for so many ailments, is good for your skin too. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties and can thus promote wound healing, healthy skin cell formation, and help with acne, wrinkles, psoriasis, and other inflammatory conditions.

Rosemary Essential Oil – Thanks to its antiseptic and antibacterial properties, Rosemary EO is effective against a range of skin conditions, including dermatitis, eczema, acne, and many other conditions that usually cause scars. It also helps eliminate dryness and adds a glow to your skin.

Geranium Essential Oil – Geranium is considered a great skin tonic mainly because of its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It also has cicatrisant properties that help reduce the appearance of any scarring. It rejuvenates old skin cells and makes your skin look fresh.

Rose Otto Essential Oil – It provides gentle soothing and calming properties for inflamed skin, tones and lifts mature skin as well as heals skin discoloration including the ones in the form of old scars.

Calendula Oil – According to “The New Age Herbalist,” calendula is traditional remedy for wounds, scars, stings, varicose veins, calluses and warts.  It has antifungal, antibacterial and anti-flammatory properties. In combination with other healing ingredients calendula ointment can effectively treat and heal scar tissue.

Curry Oil – University of Beira in Portugal found that it is effective against bacteria, fungus growth, various skin irritations, including rashes, infections and delayed wound healing.  Helps with acne hives, redness, blemishes, rashes and shaving irritation. Helps to hydrate burnt skin and relieve the pain following sunburns and helps ageing skin.

Apricot Oil – Is rich in gamma linoleic acid, or GLA, which comes from essential fatty acid omega-6. The GLA content helps skin to maintain moisture balance. It contains vitamin A and E, which soothe the skin and slow signs of aging.

Rosehip Oil – 20 years old scars showed marked improvement after using rosehip oil.  This oil was found to regenerate the skin, reduce scars and wrinkles, prevent the advancement of wrinkles and ageing, and help skin to regain its natural colour and tone.

Jojoba Oil – For acne scar it seriously has the potential to heal your scars when used. This oil is similar found in human skin, so you can be rest assured that the oil should pose no side effects on your marks or general skin tone. It also provides natural skin protection and leaves it soft, supple, and beautiful. Oils are generally frowned upon for regular skin protection because they can clog the pores. However, jojoba oil is not ordinary oil—it doesn’t clog the pores or worsen the acne problem.

Olive Oil – Olive oil has a long, rich history. It’s not only used as a food.  People have also applied it to their hair and skin for centuries.  Olive oil is used as a skin moisturiser and hair oil.

Vitamin E – Vitamin E is both a nutrient and antioxidant. Antioxidant helps to neutralise free radicals, which damage cells. It treats wrinkles by boosting collagen production, a connective tissue that keeps skin elastic.  When applied topically to brown spots on the skin, it helps to lighten and smooth the rough skin by lubricating cell membranes and encouraging cell regeneration.
